Not sure if this is the correct place to put this news, but are there any members currently in Luxor who booked there flights with XL Airlines? If so, please contact them as the company has gone BUST!! and if you booked via www.xl.com you will have to find another flight out as you will not be covered by ATOL etc, if you booked a package with their sister companies you will be able to fly home, but please contact them.

I think it is terrible the way that this company has acted. It was taking holiday bookings right up to the day it declared bankruptcy, and even allowed planes to return to the UK totally empty. They wouldnt even bring back the people who had paid their fares, despite the planes being empty.

I believe other airlines might be affected, has anyone any up to date information on any other airlines in trouble. ?

What is going to happen with Alitalia? They may not fly into Luxor but they do fly into Cairo and many will have booked flights to Egypt and Luxor via the capital, I know that they are working now but what about the future? Will the Ialian government really let Alitalia fail or will it be bought by Air France like KLM was?

Ive got a friend coming to Luxor on 6th October from Toronto, and I know she flies on Italian airways. She is coming into Cairo, so I do hope there are no problems for her getting here. Last year there were problems with this airline and it took three days before she finally arrived in Luxor! She will obviously be watching the situation very closely, and when I next speak to her on the phone I will see what news she has.
